Champagne Lunch, Fashion Show and Elizabeth Lynn Moon Jewelry
Event this Thursday will help the battle against Biliary Tract Cancer.
Sept. 8, 2008
PALO ALTO, Calif. – Have the urge to add one more accessory to your collection, without feeling guilty about the expense? Want something that is truly unique and worthy of your desire? This week, offers an excellent opportunity.
In order to join the fight to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Biliary Tract Cancer, Elizabeth Lynn Moon will donate a portion of all jewelry sales at the 2008 Ladies Who Lunch Luncheon and Fashion Show on Sept. 11 to support the cause. The organization is welcoming the public to the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood Shores, Calif. at 11 a.m. to pass on information about the fatal disease, while also hosting an afternoon of entertainment and shopping.
The organization was recently established to start an effort to help the more than 20,000 new cases of liver and Biliary Tract Cancer each year.
“We were looking at ways to get involved with the community and do something good,” said Ladies Who Lunch co-founder Karen Silva. “There isn’t a lot of research for this type of disease like there is for breast cancer and this seemed like a great cause.”
The idea to form the organization stemmed after the mother of Gloria DeAlba, the organization’s co-founder, lost her battle with gallbladder cancer only 4 months after being diagnosed. Although she had premier care at Stanford University and the University of California – San Francisco, DeAlba’s family became aware that there was a lack of research about this less publicized, but very lethal form of cancer.
In some cases, victims are diagnosed with the disease and only survive another few weeks.
“The event will give people a chance to learn more about ways they can help people who have to battle this disease.” said Silva. “We wanted to bring in some vendors so people can enjoy themselves and browse around.”
Some vendors on hand will also directly help raise money for the organization. Elizabeth Lynn Moon will present her entire jewelry collection and will donate 25 percent of her sales to Ladies Who Lunch.
“If there is a way that I can help make a? positive difference in the world through doing what I love to do,” said jewelry designer Elizabeth Moon. “Then there's no? better way to live.”
A majority of the other vendors will be present at the event selling women’s clothing and accessories like hats and scarves.
